William Hobe brought Hobe et Cie to New York around 1927. Ziegfeld Follies commissioned Hobe to produce costumes as well as jewelry.

Hobe quickly became a major source for theatre and film in the 1940's & 1950's (along with Josef of Hollywood).

All pieces were designed by members of the Hobe family. During the 60's, Williams' sons, Robert and Donald, took over the business and in the 80's, William's grandson took over the business.
